Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about developing and manufacturing with us.
-
Can you develop a product from an initial concept?
Yes. We can support the development process from an initial idea, sketch or reference garment through to a production-ready product.
Our product development teams work closely with customers to refine design, materials, construction and fit, while our sourcing network helps identify the right fabrics and components for the product. We manage sampling and development through to final approval, ensuring the product is commercially viable and ready for production.
-
What are your minimum order quantities?
Minimum order quantities vary depending on the product, fabric, construction, production location and level of development required.
Because every project is different, we assess the requirements individually and work with our customers to identify the most appropriate production solution.
If you have a specific product in mind, contact us with your requirements and our team can advise on the appropriate MOQ.
-
Where are your garments manufactured?
Our production network spans Europe and Asia, with manufacturing operations in Portugal, China, Cambodia and Myanmar.
The most appropriate production location depends on the product, materials, technical requirements, volumes and delivery needs. Our teams work across the network to identify the right manufacturing solution for each project.
This gives our customers access to a broad range of capabilities while maintaining a single point of contact throughout the process.
-
Can you source fabrics and trims?
Yes. Material sourcing is an integral part of our product development and manufacturing process.
Through our established supplier network, we source fabrics, trims and other components according to the technical, aesthetic, performance and commercial requirements of each product.
Where required, we can also work with customer-nominated suppliers and materials.
-
Do you work with new and emerging brands?
Yes. We work with brands at different stages of development, from established international businesses to new and growing brands.
Our involvement can begin at different points depending on the customer's needs—from developing an initial product concept and sourcing materials to supporting an established product range through production.
We take the time to understand each customer's objectives, requirements and growth plans before defining the right production approach.
-
What types of brands do you work with?
We work with international brands across Fashion and Professional Wear, including fashion, sportswear, outdoor, workwear and other performance-driven categories.
Our customers range from established brands with long-term production programmes to companies developing new products and collections.
Because many of our customer relationships are confidential, we do not publicly disclose brand names. However, we are happy to discuss relevant experience and capabilities directly when evaluating a new project.
-
What is your typical production lead time?
Lead times vary depending on the product, materials, order volume, production location and level of development required.
We establish the production timeline with each customer at the beginning of the project and coordinate development, material sourcing, sampling and manufacturing around the agreed delivery requirements.
For repeat products and established programmes, our teams can work from agreed production calendars to help customers plan future deliveries.
-
How do you manage quality control?
Quality is managed throughout the production process, rather than only inspected at the end.
Our teams monitor product specifications, materials, construction and workmanship throughout development and manufacturing. Samples are reviewed and approved before bulk production, while production is monitored through defined quality-control procedures and final inspections before shipment.
Our goal is to identify and resolve potential issues as early as possible, reducing risk and ensuring that the finished product meets the agreed specifications.
-
Can you manufacture technical and performance garments?
Yes. We have experience developing and manufacturing garments where performance, functionality and technical construction are key requirements.
Our capabilities include performance fabrics, outdoor apparel, sportswear, workwear and other technically demanding products. Our teams work with customers to select appropriate materials and construction methods based on the intended use and performance requirements of the garment.
Our R&D activities also support the development of technical and performance-focused fabric solutions.
-
What certifications and standards do you work with?
Our production network works with a range of internationally recognised social, environmental, quality and product standards, depending on the facility and product requirements.
These include standards and certifications such as BSCI, SMETA, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OEKO-TEX®, GOTS, GRS, REACH and relevant product safety standards.
The applicable certifications and requirements vary by product and production location. Our team can provide the relevant documentation and certification details for individual projects.
-
How do you approach sustainability?
We believe sustainability is best addressed through practical decisions across the product and production lifecycle.
Depending on the project, this can include material selection, certified and recycled fibres, resource-efficient production, waste reduction, responsible chemical management, energy use and longer-lasting product design.
Our production network includes facilities and processes focused on reducing environmental impact, and we work with customers to identify solutions that balance sustainability, product performance and commercial requirements.
-
Can you manage the entire process from development to delivery?
Yes. End-to-end product management is at the heart of what we do.
We can support our customers through product development, material sourcing, sampling, testing, production, quality control and final delivery.
Working with one partner across these stages simplifies communication, improves visibility and gives our customers a single point of accountability throughout the production process.
Our role is not simply to manufacture a garment, but to help manage the process that brings it from concept to finished product.
-
Why work with Clifton?
Our customers choose to work with Clifton when they need more than manufacturing capacity.
With teams and production capabilities across Europe and Asia, we bring together product development, sourcing, manufacturing and quality management within one connected process.
Our long-standing industry experience, established supply-chain relationships and involvement throughout production allow us to identify opportunities, solve problems early and adapt to the needs of each customer.
For us, being a manufacturing partner means taking responsibility for the process—not simply producing the finished garment.
